Our Adult classes is focused toward beginner to advanced beginner level, so if you have no experience or want to get back into Irish dance after some time away, this program is for you!
Classes Specifically Reserved For Our Adult Dancers
What will I learn?
For beginner dancers, we will cover basic Irish dance moves and rhythms, proper technique, and show you how to stretch and strengthen your body for dance.
For dancers with a little more experience, exercises and drills will help you refine your technique, and additional dance options will be introduced. The class will work on both ceili dancing, which are dances performed as a group that focus on figures and partner work, as well as solo step dancing.
I’m an older dancer. Will I be able to do Irish?
There’s no age limit on Irish dance! You can find videos online that feature dancers of all ages that enjoy Irish dance, and you can too! Each year, the class is tailored to the group of participants to insure that the material we learn is suitable with options for every age and skill level.
I’m a returning student. What will be new for me this year?
Irish dance is a challenging art form, and there will always be more to learn. The more advanced dancers always help the class advance as a whole by giving newer dancers the benefit of their experience. In addition, more difficult step options will be offered, and if desired and sufficient skill level has been demonstrated, these students may be introduced to hard shoe dancing. Once a student has progressed into hard shoes, and grasps the basics of that technique, the student would be ready to move into one of our standard Irish dance classes if desired. There is no limit to how far you wish to go!
Will I have to dance at recital or other events?
Only if you want to! This class is supposed to be fun and offer an opportunity to learn and participate in Irish dance and culture. However, should you wish to participate, opportunities will certainly exist, so let us know. Our current Adults have thoroughly enjoyed performances with both our community events and Spring Showcase.
"Having started Irish dancing at the age of 33, I never dreamed I could come so far and enjoy it for so many years. From something I just wanted to try because it looked fun and exciting, I have now had the opportunity to perform in recitals, community events, parades such as the Dominion Christmas Parade, participate in local and national dance competitions, and was given the opportunity to join Crossroads Irish Dance Troupe and now perform as a member of the Senior company. Along the way, I’ve met other adult dancers like me, and have found them to be a warm and inviting group excited to meet others like themselves. Come be a part of our family—you won’t regret it! "
